cavala grelhada

grilled mackerel
serves 3

last friday went to the market. to buy some fresh fish. and was so nice. portuguese flavours. so simple, and yes, was a really good treat.

at the market asked to the fishmonger how to prepare the mackerel. simple process that we followed. the mackerel does not require much work, only needs to be gutted. we didn't cut off the head, as suggested at the market. and glad not. they ate the head and everything..!

ingredients:
3 mackerels
2 tsp. sea salt
5 tbsp. olive oil
lemon slices

Open the mackerel and gut it. Rinse under water and clean it properly. Make 4 or 5 incisions on each side the fish and season with salt, especially inside the fish. Be careful and do not put much salt, because the fish is already too salty.
Put the mackerel on a dish, add the olive oil and place it under a hot grill. Let it cook for around 10 minutes on each side.

Serve with some lemon slice and new potatoes baked in the oven with olive oil and rosemary.

  2. Peixe fresco é do melhor!
